Year in Review

December 2, 2019

Dear Friends of HVJC,

As the year comes to an end, we reflect on the people we have served and the many accomplishments we have achieved in 2019.  None of that would have been possible without the generosity of our supporters.  Next year, your contribution could help us do even more.

2019 was a busy year for HVJC.  Our office welcomed two new staff members, including a full-time Victim Advocate and an AmeriCorps Vista.  And HVJC’s three attorneys handled 201 cases for Hudson Valley residents.  72% of these cases involved non-citizens.  HVJC represented clients in a variety of practice areas, such as housing, family law, immigration, and public benefits, to name a few.  Further, HVJC served clients throughout the Hudson Valley, including Armonk, Baldwin Place, Bedford Hills, Cortlandt Manor, Croton on Hudson, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Hartsdale, Jefferson Valley, Mount Kisco, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Ossining, Peekskill, Port Chester, Rye Brook, Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, West Harrison, White Plains and Yonkers.  In 2019, HVJC participated in 18 outreach events, reaching over 670 people.  HVJC conducted several bi-lingual “know your rights” presentations, and promoted HVJC’s free legal services at various cultural events. Finally, HVJC is a proud member of the New York Immigration Coalition, Non-Profit Westchester and Westchester Women’s Agenda.

Despite HVJC’s diligent efforts, the need for assistance has only grown.  As the only non-profit law firm providing free comprehensive legal services to immigrants in Westchester, regardless of immigration status, HVJC believes that communities thrive when all members have equal access to justice.  HVJC is committed to educating the community about all residents’ rights under the law.  The immigrant community is especially vulnerable to abuse, and, given the current political climate and the constant changes in the legal landscape, immigrants need quality legal advice and representation now more than ever.

We have accomplished a lot already – but we can do even more with your help.  Your contribution will help HVJC serve more clients in more communities throughout the Hudson Valley, and will help insure that those in need receive the legal assistance they deserve.  Please consider making a donation.
