HVJC statement regarding racial justice

June 9, 2020

Dear supporters, clients, and community members,

The events of this past week have left us saddened and outraged - but also determined. Determined to change, determined to better our communities and ourselves, and determined to work even harder for those we represent.

Before taking action, we feel obligated to reflect on our own behavior, and educate ourselves about our roles in the problems we see around us. If you would like to join us, we are providing links to a selection of books that address systemic racism in law enforcement and other areas of our society:

But reflection is not enough. Real change requires action. We must organize and engage with our communities, and we must vote. Not only in presidential and federal elections, but in our local elections as well. We must choose mayors, council members, judges, sheriffs and police chiefs who understand the needs and concerns of the most vulnerable members of our local communities.

If you have not already done so, please register to vote today. If you have any concerns about attending the polls in person, request a NYS absentee ballot here:

In Solidarity,
